Description

One of UNCW's most recognizable traditions is BACK! Seahawks - we are heading to BEACH BLAST! Grab your bathing suit, towel, some snacks, and plenty of bottled water to celebrate the new year on Wrightsville Beach. Please review guidelines below about participating in BEACH BLAST. 

Day-of-Event Guidelines 

  1. UNCW students who require transportation may utilize theBeach Blast shuttle service. Alternative transportation methods include car-pooling, Uber or Lyft, a group bike ride, etc., at the individuals personal expense.  
  • The Beach Blast shuttles leave from Lot FF (beside Wagoner Hall) from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.  
  • All shuttles are wheelchair and ADA accessible. 
  • You must bring your UNCW One Card to ride the shuttles. The service is only provided to UNCW students. 
  • You may bring a cooler for transport, but it will be checked. 
  • All shuttle users will be provided a TEAL WRISTBAND and DISPOSABLE FACE COVERING.  
  • Teal wristband is required to wear at Beach Blast to participate in activities, get free food or beverages.  
  • Disposable face coverings must be worn during transportation to and from the event.  
  • At 1:30 p.m., shuttles will stop taking students from campus to the beach and begin shuttling students from the beach back to campus.  
  • The last shuttle leaves the beach at 4:00 p.m. It is the responsibility of UNCW students to ensure they prepare to leave the event at a reasonable time.  
  1. All attendees will be asked to show proof of ID such as a UNCW One Card at the event. 
  • UNCW students who show their One Card will receive a TEAL WRISTBAND so that they can participate in activities, get free food or beverages. 
  • Community members may attend the event but will not receive a wristband. Community members are subject to being charged for food and beverage at the vendors discretion. 
  1. Alcohol is not permitted at Beach Blast. 
  • All coolers will be checked for alcohol at all access points Any alcohol must be disposed of immediately. This includes UNCW students and the general public. Wrightsville Police will monitor the event for any violations of the law regarding the consumption of alcohol.  
  1. Seek event support if you need it. 
  • Wrightsville Beach Lifeguards are the first point of contact in emergency situations. 
  • Approximately sixty (60) University Staff and Student Leaders will be stationed at all access points and roving the event. All staff will be wearing a BEACH BLAST STAFF t-shirt/tank top to denote they are working the event. 
  • At least thirteen (13) Staff One Security Personnel and four (4) Wrightsville Police Officers are present.  
  • New Hanover EMS, UNCW Environmental Health & Safety, and UNCW Student Health Center will be on stand-by for first aid assistance and medical support if necessary. 
  1. Take care of the beach. 
  • Please take time to properly dispose of any trash or recyclables in their respective bins located across various areas of the beach. We want to leave the beach better than we found it so we can continue to offer the enjoyment of Beach Blast to future UNCW students.  
  • UNCW Plastic Ocean Project will host a beach sweep right after the event at 4:00 p.m. to further assist in the preservation and protection of Wrightsville Beach. All are welcome to join in this initiative.
